  1. Put a check mark if you will accept late submissions passed due date. These submissions will be accepted but the time will indicate that they were submitted late.
  2. Put a check mark if you want to allow the students to resubmit their papers until due date. Students can make up to three submissions to the assignment within 24 hours of their first submission or first re-submission.
  3. Put a check mark if you want to allow submission of any file type. Allowing any file type will also include file types that Turnitin cannot analyze.

Tip: For Turnitin to analyze a file, it must have the following:

  • Be less than 100 MB
  • Be less than 800 pages
  • Have a minimum of 20 words
  • Have one of these file types: doc, docx, wpd, html, pdf, ps, txt, rtf, odt, pptx, hwp, hwpx, google doc
  • Have machine-readable/selectable text (not an image or scanned PDF)
  • Must not be password-protected/encrypted

Expand or collapse content 7.1. Student access to Similarity report

Put a check mark if you want the students to have access to their Similarity Report. Enabling students to view the similarity report benefits them if you are allowing a rewrite. They can see where their quotes are too long or whether they have copied text from another source.

Expand or collapse content 7.2. Similarity Report options

Decide on when reports should be generated.

At the time of submission - Similarity Reports will generate immediately after being uploaded to the assignment.

On due date - all Similarity Reports are generated at the same time on the due date.

Expand or collapse content 7.3. Choose whether student submission should be stored in Turnitin repository.

If submissions are added to a repository

  • Generate reports immediately - with this setting, the Similarity Report for each submission will be generated immediately without comparison to other submissions within the assignment. On the assignment due date, a new Similarity report and collusion check will be run. This process indexes all submissions to the selected repository and compares them to each other. As a result of this refresh, some similarity scores may change.
  • Generate reports on due date - all submissions will enter the repository on the due date and will be used for comparison against each other.

Submissions are not stored in a repository - the submissions within an assignment cannot be used for comparison against each other, so the time of report generation has no effect on the similarity score.
