How do I create a Turnitin Assignment?
You will learn how to create a Turnitin Assignment in your course in Canvas.
There are two types of Turnitin assignments which can be used in your course: Turnitin Plagiarism Framework and Turnitin Assignment.
The Turnitin Assignment allows you to use the Turnitin Feedback Studio for comments, the similarity report, viewing sources, quick marks, and grading. The Turnitin Assignment also allows you to add a template for student use, a rubric and numerous other settings, like deciding whether the student submissions are added to the Turnitin repository and whether students can view the similarity report.
Follow these steps to create a Turnitin Assignment.
4. The pop-up windows offers several choices.
You can choose from the following selections:
(1) Create a Standard Turnitin Assignment
(2) Create a Multipart Turnitin Assignment
(3) Copy an existing Turnitin Assignment (from a different course)
Check out this guide to learn more about the different Turnitin assignment types.
9. Select dates for this assignment.
You will need a Start date, Due date, and Feedback release date.
Start date: The first date and time that a student can submit to this assignment.
Due date: The date and time this assignment is due.
Feedback release date: The date and time that you will be able to see your feedback. This date must be on or after the Due date.
11. Add a Template if desired.
A template is used if, for example, you have a form that students should fill out. The template text will not be analyzed. View this guide on assignment settings to learn how to upload a template.
13. Select the desired submission settings.
Tip: Allowing submissions of any file type will allow students to submit files which cannot be analyzed by Turnitin, so this defeats the purpose of using Turnitin, so is not recommended.
14. Select the Report settings you need.
Note: If this assignment is for a draft of a paper, then perhaps consider selecting "Do not store the submitted papers."
16. A Turnitin assignment is created BUT not yet published.
Be sure to publish the assignment when you are ready.
