How do I moderate a New Quizzes quiz (extra time, assign different dates, a second attempt, etc.)?
You will learn how to make accommodations for your students, such as providing extra time, assigning different due dates, and offering a second attempt.
This guide is for New Quizzes only.
Select the type of accommodation you would like to learn how to make:
Follow these steps after you have already made your New Quizzes quiz and have students in your course (meaning you can't do this in a course with no students).
1. Click on the Three Dots menu to the right of your quiz.
2. Select Edit.
3. Click on Build.
4. Click on Moderate.
5. After locating the desired student, click on the Pencil icon.
6. Click on the dropdown arrow.
7. Select the desired type of time accommodation.
The three choices are: Give additional time, Remove time limit (unlimited), and Time limit multiplier.
Choose the time accommodation you want to make:
1. Select Give additional time.
2. Type the desired amount of extra time for each upcoming quiz activity.
Note that this setting affects ALL future quizzes, so you only need to do this action one time for each student.
If your Available from time and your Until time are very close, like is sometimes done in Zoom-based synchronous courses, you will likely need to adjust the Assign settings for this Assignment.
3. Click on Save. (1)
4. Note that the accommodation now displays for this student.
1. Select Remove time limit.
2. Click on Save.
3. That accommodation now displays.
1. Select Time limit multiplier
2. Type in the appropriate multiplier value.
3. Click on Save.
4. The accommodation now displays.

6. Click on the arrow button to add additional attempts.
7. Click on the X.
8. The accommodation of an extra attempt does not display under the Accommodations column.
Follow these steps if you need to give one student, a section of students, or a group of students, a different Due date or Until date.
For some synchronous courses held via Zoom, it is quite common that the Available from date and time and the Until date and time are very close together not leaving enough time for an accommodation of extra time.
Note: the only way to give an entire group of students different dates is to create additional sections for your course.
If you have a very small time slot for students to take a quiz/exam, and you have a student needing extra time, you will need to follow these steps in order to change the Due date and the Until date.
1. Click on the quiz activity link.
2. Scroll down to the Assign section.
For some synchronous courses held via Zoom, it is quite common that the Available from date and and time and the Until date and time are very close together not leaving enough time for an accommodation of extra time.
3. Click on +Add.
4. Click on Assign to.
5. Select the desired section or individual.
For Assignments that use an LTI, such as for New Quizzes, you cannot use "groups". If you want to assign this to a group of students, you will need to create additional course sections and use them as groups. The sample below shows two extra sections called Section 01 and Section 02.
6. Enter the dates and times to allow for the student's accommodation.
In this sample, the student receives 1.5 multiplier for quizzes and exams, so the Due date/time and the Available date/time have been delayed by 30 minutes.
7. Click on Save.
8. The Quiz will now show Multiple Dates.
