How do I download all student submissions for a Turnitin Assignment?
You will learn how to download all of the student submissions to the Turnitin Assignment 1.1.
You may want to do this if you have imported a Turnitin Assignment from a previous term, the students have submitted their papers and you discover that the Feedback Studio will not allow you to give grades or comments to your students.
As part of the process of replacing the old assignment with a new one, best practice would be to download all submissions, grade reports, submission lists and create or copy a new Turnitin Assignment, then have the students submit to the new assignment.
2. Scroll down to the Turnitin interface.
Alert: This interface shown is the Turnitin Assignment 1.1 (pre-summer 2026 for CSUF). The current interface (Turnitin 1.3) looks a bit different.
If your interface looks like this screenshot that means you will not be able to use the Feedback Studio to grade or provide comments.
This screenshot is of a copy of the other assignment after using the Turnitin Assignment Copy Tool. There are two student submissions.
3. When you navigate to your Downloads folder and open the ZIP, you will see that there is a PDF for each student submission.
Important Considerations
- If students have already submitted papers to the existing assignment, they will need to resubmit their work to the newly copied or recreated assignment.
- Before deleting an older assignment, it is a best practice to download all existing student submissions and associated reports for your records.
- In many cases, instructors first discover this issue when they are unable to access Feedback Studio to grade submissions or provide comments on an assignment that was copied from a previous course.
- After successfully copying the assignment, verifying its settings, and retaining any necessary submission records, the older assignment may be deleted if it is no longer needed.
