How do I use the Turnitin Assignment Copy Tool to copy my Turnitin Assignment to my new course?

You will learn how to use the Turnitin Assignment Copy tool to copy one of your past course Turnitin Assignments into your current course.

Using this copy tool will convert your older version Turnitin Assignments to the current version. This is necessary if you want to use the Feedback Studio to grade submissions and give feedback to your students.

1. Enter your course in Canvas and click on Assignments.

2. Click on the Three Dots menu and select Turnitin.

3. Click on Copy assignment from existing class.

4. Type in the name of the course where the Turnitin Assignment is located.

5. Click on the desired course.

6. The list of Turnitin Assignments will display in a list.

Note: Even if you have previously deleted a specific assignment from your course, it will still be in the list, as this list is generated from Turnitin.com, not from Canvas.

You might see several different types of assignments.

A Multipart assignment (1) allows you to connect several parts of the same assignment, for example, if you want to scaffold a writing assignment, you could divide it into several different parts, like Thesis, outline, draft, final, etc.

A Standard assignment (3) is the current version of the Turnitin Assignment.

A Standard (Classic) assignment (3) is an older style standalone Turnitin Assignment, but it can still be copied and converted to the newest standard.

7. Tick the box to select the desired assignments.

8. Click on Copy Assignments.

9. Adjust the Start, Due, and Feedback release dates for your assignments.

If these assignments are being copied from an older course, be sure to either the change the dates or click on Clear All, unless you want to risk giving all of your students a Zero for these assignments.

Since the assignments will be copied to your course as Unpublished, the students will not receive 0s. However, if you publish the assignment without changing the dates, then students will receive 0s if you have the Late Policy enabled.

10. After adjusting the dates, click on Save.

11. The copied assignments are now listed in the top Assignment Group.

Note that they are all Unpublished.
