How do I design a new Test in Scantron TestFlex?
You will learn how to design an in-person test for use in TestFlex.
Follow these steps after you have imported your Canvas Assignment.
1. Click on the newly imported assignment (test).
2. Click on Edit.
3. Now, decide whether you are going to use a template or design your own test (answer sheet).
Choosing to (1) design your own test/answer sheet will allow you to add one or more of the various question types: multiple choice, T/F, math, or open response. Whereas, if you select from one of the templates which are only setup for multiple choice, you can then add math or open response questions if you want.
Choose your response: (1) design from scratch or (2) use an existing answer sheet.
Follow these steps to design your answer sheet from scratch.
1. Select Design test from scratch.
2. Click on Continue.
3. Select 'Yes, require students to bubble-in their ID on the test'.
4. Click on the Student ID tab which has just appeared.
5. Use the dropdown menu to select 9 Characters for the Student ID length.
Our student CWID uses 9 digits, so to properly match filled-out student answer sheets with each student's account in Canvas, the entire CWID of 9 digits needs to be used.
6. Click on Save Design Settings.
Now is the time to add the desired types of questions to the answer sheet.
7. Note that as you are working on this answer sheet, the preview of it will appear to the right.
8. Click on Add to select the type of element you want to add.
Click on the link for the type of element you want to add to your test/answer sheet design: Multiple Choice, Open Response, Math, Label, Image, Line, Line Break, or Page Break.
9. After adding all of the elements desired, click on Finish.
Note how the Test Preview changes after each element you add.
The next step is to create the Answer Key.
Follow these steps to use an existing template which is for Multiple Choice (and T/F) only. These templates are very quick and easy to use. However, you can always add additional question types to the answer sheet by editing it and selecting Add.
1. Select 'Use an existing answer sheet design'.
2. Use the dropdown menu to select how many Multiple Choice questions you want to have.
Tip: Although, for example, you select 100 Multiple Choice, it doesn't mean that you must have 100 questions. You can simply use the number you want as long as it is 100 or less.
3. Click on Continue.
4. Click on Edit.
Note how the Test Preview now shows how the test will look.
5. Select 'Yes, require students to bubble-in their ID on the test'.
6. Click on the STUDENT ID tab.
7. Using the dropdown menu, select 9 Characters.
It is necessary to change the ID length from the default of 5 to 9, as our CWID is 9 digits.
8. Click on Save Design Settings.
9. Click on Finished.
10. You are now ready to create an Answer Key.
