How do I configure my Canvas Assignment so that I can pass back grades from Scantron TestFlex?

You will learn how to configure your Canvas Assignment, so that you can pass the grades back from your Scantron TestFlex test.

Follow this guide to learn how to create an Assignment in Canvas.

1. When you get to the Submission type, select No Submission.

Tip: You can actually use any submission type, but this one should be the least confusing for students.

No Submission selected

2. Give the assignment a description that will let your students know that they won't need to submit any documents.

Unless you have a test where you want to collect the students' notes, for example. You can set the Assignment for File Upload and when the students give you the completed answer sheet, you can have them take a photo of their notes (like for computations, for example) and upload that file to this assignment, so that you can review their notes if desired. Otherwise, set the Assignment for No Submission.

3. Set the number of points.

The grades passed back from TestFlex are passed as a percentage, so your points don't have to be exactly the same as on the test in TestFlex, but it might help avoid confusion. For example, if the test has 10 questions, but your Assignment has 20 points, and a student gets 9 out of 10 correct, then the grade that would appear in Canvas would be 18 out of 20.

4. Publish the Assignment.

Follow these steps to set this assignment for Manual grading.

It is not required to set the Assignment for manual grading. It is simply recommended. Why? Once, you have uploaded the tests in TestFlex and have handled any exceptions, the grades are automatically passed back to Canvas. Setting this Assignment to manual grading allows you a chance to review the grades, make any last-minute changes, or wait for any late test takers before allowing the students to see the grades.
