What is Access Hub?
You will learn about the services that Access Hub offers to CSUF faculty, how you can use it, and how it can save you a lot of time remediating your course files (making them more accessible to your students).
Access Hub can help our campus to be more compliant with current accessibility standards, allowing our students, staff and faculty easier access to instructional and informational content.
Access Hub will automatically scan your matriculated course (Fall 2026) for files. Those files are uploaded to the Access Hub where their structure and components are analyzed and compared to WCAG accessibility standards. After the analysis, each file's structure and components are made compatible, if possible.
Where is the Access Hub?
The Access Hub is a course menu item in your Canvas course, which is not visible to students. Each course will have its own Access Hub course menu item.
What is the Access Hub workflow?
Access Hub will start a nightly scan for each course listed within that term in Canvas. As new files are added to the course, they will be scanned each night.
After the nightly scan, any new files will be analyzed and remediated. This process may take up to a day or so depending upon the quantity of new files added to each of the courses that are being scanned.
After the files have been remediated, you, as the professor, can then review and select which files to replace within your course. A copy of the original files are kept in Access Hub for your convenience in case you have a need for the original.
Which issues can Access Hub fix?
Access Hub can fix many of the common errors found in files, especially those found in PDFs, docx and pptx, such as tags for title, language, heading structure (H1, H2, H3), paragraphs, figures, table header rows, etc.
Image Alt text can also be addressed by using AI to write meaningful Alt text or decide whether the image should be marked as decorative. Text contrast and size is set to comply with the WCAGG AA (4.5:1 for normal text) standard.
The faculty member decides whether to use the remediated file(s).
You will have the opportunity to review and to decide whether each file has been improved and whether to replace the original file(s) in your Canvas course.
