Student: How do I resize an image before uploading it to Canvas?

You will learn one way to resize an image, so that the file size is much smaller than the original. This process will help you to stay within your Canvas File Storage Quota.

Follow these steps before you upload an image to a Discussion.

1. Open the image in whatever image editing software you have.

Note: This AI-generated image is currently at 3MB before we resize it. This tutorial is using SnagIt Editor to resize a sample image, but other apps can do this task as easily.

2. Click on the display size of the image.

Depending upon the app you are using this could be within the main menu. In this case, it is below the image.

3. Type in the value that represents the size you want to display it at within your discussion post.

In this example, we are using 400 pixel width for the image. It should then display fine in the discussion post.

4. Click on Apply.

5. Save your image at it new dimensions.

If you want to keep your original image, select Save As instead.
