How do I create a Padlet that will report a grade back to my Canvas course?

You will learn how to connect a Padlet to your course in Canvas and pass back the grade.

Follow these following steps after you have created an Assignment in Canvas and are ready to connect the Padlet external tool. Review the guide on creating an assignment if needed.

Note: This process will also create a Cal State Fullerton branded Padlet user account for you. Just follow the steps.

2. Click on Edit.

3. Under Submission Type, select External Tool.

4. Click on Find.

5. Scroll down the list and select Padlet.

6. Click on the Padlet (1) you created for this assignment.

Tip: If you still need to make a Padlet or want to look at your current list of Padlets, click on Open Dashboard.

If you want to make this a non-interactive, non-collaborative assignment, then you can select to create a copy for each user. Students will not see each others' posts - just you (3).

If you want your Padlet to report to the gradebook, be sure that slider is set to enabled (2).

7. Click on Select.

8. Click on Save & Publish.

9. Looking at your assignment, you will see that your Padlet is embedded in the assignment.

10. Click on Share.

Tip: The default setting is likely to be Reader for both of those groups. However, since this is an assignment, we want only students in the course to be able to access this Padlet and to make comments and posts to this Padlet.

12. Click on Reader and then select No access.

13. Click on Reader for Cal State Fullerton members and select the desired level of interaction.

In this case it is desired that all students in the course post and comment, so Writer seems to be the best option.

14. Close the tab and return to the assignment.

15. Scroll to the top of the page and click on View as Student.

It is essential to test that you have correctly set up this assignment. Padlet supports the View as Student tool.

16. Scroll down the page and look for the +Post button.

This indicates that your students should be able to post to this Padlet. Give it a try!

17. When finished creating a post, click on Submit.
